Water is essential for life. It is the first space, the first liquid we inhabit. Its fluidity contrasts with a dry world; its flow offers volume, space, and immateriality. We are water, we are cells, we are skin.
Scents are perceived in the limbic part of the brain and are therefore very emotional. The effect of scents is immediate, sensual, and strong. Scents give us a sense of ourselves and define our relationship to others and our environment. Smell is an activator. It is a remedy. Scents can translate abstract concepts into a tangible reality and have an effect on many levels.
The photographs and the water scent
Sclafani Baden are initial research into the thermal spring in Sclafani Bagni, Sicily, and an attempt to bring the two springs – in Baden and Sclafani – into dialogue.
The recipe for the water fragrance is inspired by local scents and vegetation, free associations while bathing in the two springs. It works with specific healing aspects of the respective natural essences.
